That is quite an imposing line up of top teams in the Women's Team Championship. It's particularly interesting with all the former Soviet republics playing as their own country. Sad to say, I'm afraid the US would get crunched in an event like that.
ReplyDeleteHi Polly,
ReplyDeleteThe USA women's team won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympiad when Susan Polgar played on the team and our women's team finished in 4th place in 2006 without Susan Polgar playing. Unfortunately, several formerly strong players are now playing only part time (Baginskaite) and some aren't playing much at all (Jen Shahade). I was going to say we're just one strong player away from being in the medals again in the Olympiad, but realistically, that's probably not the case. I think the Euro Teams event will be very interesting and there will be strong competition among the top 3-4 teams. They're probably all relieved, though, that the Chinese aren't playing in this event!!!
