Safe trip to, at and coming back from the 2010 Pan American. College students and their supporters are all winners by getting players to the Pan American. This can be an excellent experience for all!
ReplyDeleteWish more college students would get support from their colleges and chess communities, so more students could go.

Team members may not be able to make it on time, particularly those who are flying in from the east coast; I read at the NYT that Kennedy won't be open until 4 p.m., Laguardia around 2 p.m. and there will be a huge backlog of people trying to get on to a limited # of planes. Subways are mostly still off line in NYC to outlying regions and Amtrak service to Boston is delayed when it is running at all. People out west may well be affected too, since planes that were scheduled to be in certain cities could not get out of NYC, causing a domino effect all around the country. No plane, no trip, even if the weather where you're at is okay. Ironically, Milwaukee has great weather today - the low ceiling and cloud cover as lifted and it's sunny and in the high 20's. No snow in the forecast and it may get warm enough by the weekend to have rain - our January thaw is coming early this year. I wonder what the contingencies are for half or more of the players not being able to show up???
