Shamans in Action

I happened across this very interesting photograph taken today in Lima Peru, of shamans conducting a "good luck" ceremony over two posters - one is the Prime Minister of Spain; the other is the new Fearless Leader of North Korea.  Is he out of diapers???

I wonder why they did this???

  1. Hi Jan! I stumbled upon your post while doing research for my own blog.

I think the Peruvian Shamans offered prayers for world leaders as part of an end-of-the-year ritual. They asked for blessings for Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (the President of Argentina will undergo surgery for thyroid cancer in a few days), for the new leader of Spain, the new leader of North Korea (and for peace between North and South), and for President Obama.

This is a traditional ritual that is held every year around New Years. They also prophesy about the upcoming year during this ceremony... for instance, this year they prophesied that the world will not end in 2012, and they prayed against the supposed Maya prophecies of the world ending.

    Hope this helps! :)

  2. Jackie, thank you so much for the information. It is absolutely fascinating to me that the shamanic tradition has been carried on in Peru (and elsewhere) and I hope their rituals and blessings will have a positive effect in 2012 :)
