Anupama finished in second place, losing her only game - how dramatic was that, heh, the two leaders going into the final round! She won a Goddesschess prize of $75 for her efforts in addition to her Section prize.

How cool is that!  Four of the five chess femmes who played in the event finished in the top 4 spots (I think.  Allen becker is trying to teach me how they actually rank the players but I just don't get it.  I do not understand why a player is put into a final position by rating rather than based on tie-breaks!)  Alena Huang won a Goddesschess prize of $50 in addition to her Section prize. 

Yet to be determined is the M/E winner of the Goddesschess Best Game Prize of $50.  That will be determined some time later this week. 

Looking forward to next year.  I think a change of Goddesschess' prize structure is in order.  Some photos from Milwaukee Summer Challenge II:

Milwaukee Summer Challenge II

Happy Father's Day to all the dads!  You've got a fabulous warm, sunny (albeit humid) day here in Milwaukeeland and I hope you will have a wonderful time today.

Standings through Round 3 are in on the 2013 Milwaukee Summer Challenge hosted by my adopted chess club, Southwest Chess Club.  The final two rounds of action are today, beginning at 10 a.m.  Things will wrap up in plenty of time for everyone to get home and enjoy grilling out or going to their favorite restaurant for a father's day treat!  Here are the standings for the chess femmes thus far - and I'm showing the leaders in each section, too, for comparison purposes:

Milwaukee Summer Challenge II

Hola everyone!

The second Milwaukee Summer Challenge is taking place this weekend - started to day, in fact!  June 15-16, 2013. 

Results/standings aren't in yet for the first rounds of the Summer Challenge.  A scholastic tournament was scheduled against the Summer Challenge (which itself was requested to move it dates and that seems to have siphoned off some chess femmes who otherwise might have chosen to play in the Summer Challenge.  That's too bad, because Goddesschess put up some nice prizes again, and a $50 best game prize for the players in the M/E Section (a closed section) as well.  This year, all of the players in that section are guys - we spread the Goddesschess love when we can :)

However, we had enough chess femmes playing to activitate the prizes (sure hope I've got these right!):

Milwaukee Summer Challenge II

Hola darlings!

I so happy my adopted chess club decided to bring back this two-day summer tournament.  Last July the first Milwaukee Summer Challenge hosted by Southwest Chess Club and the turnout was 76 players, including Anupama Rajendra, winner of the 2012 National All Girls Championship.

The flyer for the Milwaukee Summer Challenge II, which will be held June 15 - 16, 2013 in Milwaukee, is available at Southwest Chess Club's website.  Here's some information:

5-Round Swiss; G/120 with 5 second delay;
4 Sections: Master/Expert (closed), U2000, U1500, and U1000;
Goddesschess and Best Game prizes will be awarded (see below)!
Chess Magnet School Junior Grand Prix!

Goddess Chess Prizes for this event:
(1) in Master/Expert, $100 to top scoring female finisher provided at least 2 females play;
(2) in U2000, $75, to top scoring female finisher provided at least 2 females play;
(3) in U1500, $50, to top scoring female finisher provided at least 3 females play;
(4) in U1000, $25, to top scoring female finisher provided at least 3 females play;
There are no tie-breaks; if tie score the prize money is split; and
Must score a draw or win in any section to qualify for prize.

Best Games Prizes:
Master/Expert: $50
U2000: $25
U1500: $25
U1000: $25

Milwaukee Summer Challenge II

It is back, darlings!  Mark your calendars for June 15 - 16, 2013 in Milwaukee!

Last year, my adopted chess club, Southwest Chess Club, went out on a limb and hosted the first ever Milwaukee Summer Challenge in July, 2012.  Five rounds, taking place over two days, as far as I am aware this was the first tournament of its kind to be hosted in the Milwaukee area for many a year!

And - it was a success! 

Response was overwhelming.  And so this, year, once again, it's baaaaacccccckkkkkkk...

Last year Goddesschess sponsored separate prizes for the female chessplayers as well as a $25 Best Game Prize open to both female and male players.

I'm happy to say that this year I'm sponsoring the same prizes for the chess femmes, and also the $25 Best Game Prize, open to all players who wish to submit their games per rules set by Southwest Chess Club and judged by - not me!  LOL!  My chess knowledge wouldn't fit in a thimble, so I leave it in the capable hands of others to determine the best game prize.

In addition to the $25 Best Game Prize, these are the Goddesschess prizes for the chess femmes:

2013 Milwaukee Summer Challenge!

Hola darlings!

You probably thought I had died or something - but I'm here, alive and kicking.  In fact, I had a very good report from Heart Doctor #1 on 4/17/13 and a big load of worry has been removed from above my head.  No more Sword of Damocles dangling over me -- well, for now, anyway :)

I am sooooo happy to announce that me a/k/a Goddesschess, since I'm the only one left now, will be funding prizes for Southwest Chess Club's second Milwaukee Summer Challenge!

Last year's inaugural Milwaukee Summer Challenge was a big hit. July, 2012 was the first time my adopted chess club hosted a five-game tournament spread over two days.  Goddesschess/me (I?) provided $250 in prizes for the chess femmes (I think), but things got switched around a bit when not enough female players entered the highest-rated section, and so I reallocated the prize money originally intended for the highest rated section to increase the prizes for chess femmes in the other sections and also increased the Best Game Prizes (open to female and male players) in each section.  Well - something like that, anyway.  Those great guys at SWCC figured it all out so I didn't have to stress my brain (such as it is) about it!   Final standings from the 2012 Milwaukee Summer Challenge with Goddesschess prizes noted. 

This year, I am putting up the same prizes for chess femmes playing in each section, and Tom Fogec and I discussed a $50 best game prize when I saw him a few weeks ago.  I honestly do not recall all the details now, but I had lots of other things on my mind last summer, with the health crises Mr. Don (may he rest in peace) and I were undergoing at the time.  The guys will let me know the $$ I need to send them to cover.

Talk about being behind the times - geez - today was the first time I checked out who actually won best game prizes at the 2012 Milwaukee Summer Challenge, and was pleased to see that Anne Ulrich won the prize for her section!  YAH!

Couldn't help but also note that in less than a year, Anne has raised her ELO by some 300 points!  You can see the prize-winning games here -- Anne's is first up.  At that time, she was rated 1072. Her rating now is 1396.  A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
