2008 U.S. Chess Championships
Hooray! Great news. The Championships have been announced and there WILL be a Women’s Championship, according to the announcement I saw tonight at USCF’s website.
There will be dual tournaments held in Tulsa Oklahoma, May 13 – 21, 2008, Men’s Event and Women’s Event. The top two finishers in each event will then face off for the Men’s and Women’s titles in Stillwater, Oklahoma (site of the 2007 U.S. Chess Championship and 2007 U.S. Women’s Chess Championship). The date for these "match" events is the weekend after May 21, 2008 (Memorial Day weekend, not Labor Day weekend per the announcement, tsk tsk).
There will be a qualifying Open event in Tulsa, Oklahoma, March 28 – 30, 2008.
I’m not sure if this means that there will be no seeded players (because of rank or because of being 2007 champions?)
Frank Berry is "the primary sponsor" of the event. Jim Berry and Tom Braunlich are principals. More details will follow.
Goddesschess will once again be offering a brilliancy prize for the Women's Championship.

If you can get a clear winner in 9 rounds, then who needs a playoff. I'd hate to see someone go 9-0, then play and lose a match to someone who went 7-2.
Playoff to break ties are fine, but I would want to come in clear first and risk it all like that.
