Well, I didn't think something like this would actually happen. I mean, what are the odds? But it did and I am so pleased!
Today was the day I was going to write my second update on my use of the L'Bri products I started using on February 10. It has been 21 full days (3 weeks). Earlier today I was in one of the female attorney's offices chatting with her about my upcoming get-away to Las Vegas after tax season, and I mentioned that as part of our three day All Girls Girly Stuff I was going to buy a swim suit and would be taking some products to Isis to try out, new products that I had been using on my face and was very happy with the results. She looked amazed and said I was just thinking to myself what nice skin Jan has!
Wow! So I give her a quick summary about how I ended up purchasing the L'Bri products, how I used them and the results I was seeing, and that she could order free samples on the internet (I emailed her my sister's L'Bri website url later). I think she is going to be ordering some free samples. She said - and I'm sure she meant it as a complement - that I looked much younger, and she sounded so amazed when she said it. LOL!
I'm not sure if another comment made last Friday (2/26) counts. I was in the office kitchen getting some water when one of the paralegals came in and she commented on how rosy my complexion looked and how much my pink sweater suited me. I have received complements on the pink sweater before, but never any comments about my complexion while wearing it. Pink does suit my coloring, so maybe this one doesn't count as being caused by my use of L'Bri products.
So, how does my skin look? Note: I examine without glasses in different mirrors, under different lighting conditions, and also close examinations with my glasses on AND using a magnifying mirror.
Looks pretty darn good. It is definitely smoother to the touch and softer. My rosacea flare-ups have decreased quite a bit. Those pesky zits around my chin area have greatly decreased, too and what new ones pop up are not lasting as long. So, the gentle form of the products are just fine for treating post-menopausal (hormonally caused) adult acne on extremely sensitive skin.
Wrinkles - glacially slow improvement - I can see improvement now where 10 days ago I really could not. Most impressive is the change in the "frown lines" (either side of the mouth) - I hope it's not just my imagination :) I think they have definitely decreased. "Laugh lines" on either side of the eyes - I see minor, but definite, improvement. Wrinkles on my eyelids - tiny tiny change - there is change, but I guess they're not going to get much better. Wrinkles on bridge of noese - minor improvement. Wrinkles on upper lip - too soon to tell since I only began using Maxifirm on my entire face about 11 days ago. They are not so noticeable, so I am hoping they will disappear - soon! LOL!
Overall effect is definitely noticeable by yours truly, and by one unbiased observer! Ta da!
I conclude that it really is true what the L'Bri literature said - that the result of using all the products in tandem would be cumulative over 4 to 6 weeks. If after only 3 weeks I (and Jennifer) can see definite improvement, I look forward to what my skin will be in another 3 weeks, which will take me to the end of 6 full weeks.
Since I've been using the products 2x a day for the last 21 days, I've gotten very efficient with them, so it is true that one can do an entire routine from cleansing to final moisturizing in about 5-6 minutes, including application of eye gel and Maxifirm. Separate timing for use of the peel (the exfoliating product I am using that looks like emulsified orange peels, LOL!), which I have settled into a routine of using peel, two days off, peel on third day, start the count over again. I am scheduled for another peel tomorrow morning and I can see in the magnifying mirror that I need it! I have flaking skin - those zits are healing away layer by layer.
Oh - pores. I learned just today by accident while scouting around the internet during my lunch hour that pore size is genetically determined, and so no product can permanently shrink pore size. However, products can temporarily reduce the appearance of large pores. I believe this is what has happened with my face and, coupled with the overall improvement in skin texture, the pores are not as noticeable. I don't know if this is the case with other women, but my largest pores are on my upper lip and in the crease lines from nose down to chin. Mind, I'm looking at my skin under blasting light, with my glasses on and also with a magnifying mirror, so those damn pores look like pot-holes.
Products can also improve overall skin texture both by healing blemishes (from inside out) and removing dead skin cells. Products can further promote healthy skin and maximize production of new skin cells by maintaining a neutral PH balance and not clogging skin pores (those pores again) or unduly drying out essential oils that are provided to the skin from below. Diet and intake of enough water along with adequate sleep do the rest. This isn't exactly a scientific explanation, but this is how I understand what's going on in lay-person's terms.
The L'Bri products are not doing any damage to my skin - that is a major plus. As much as I thought that my prior regimine was beneficial to my face, it was causing problems, although not as many as if I'd been scrubbing my skin twice a day with alkaline soap and using harsh scrubbers to exfoliate a couple of times a week. I was actually clogging up those pores in several places on my face in an attempt to slow the development of dry skin and wrinkles, especially on the bone line of where cheek bone meets eye socket - lots of little bumps used to be there.
So - all of that stuff that I used to use (other than my generic Lubriderm facial wash) is going into the garbage tonight. Oy, it hurts to be throwing out so many $$$! But those old products have more minuses than pluses - not like the L'Bri products, which thus far have all pluses.
My next report will be in 3 weeks, which will be the end of 6 full weeks of using L'Bri products. Will I look ten years younger - not, by the way, a claim that L'Bri makes, LOL! It's a demand I'm making! We'll see... If I can go back to 48 again facially and start all over - well!

L'Bri Update
FREE FREE FREE! If you're interested in ordering free samples of L'Bri products, you can do so here:
This is Liz the L'Bri Lady's website.
This is the website of my sister, Yvonne, and niece-in-law (is that a word?), Rachel! They became L'Bri consultants after experiencing the products for themselves.
The "click here" for free samples button is top center on each website. These sites are not like those websites where you order a free sample of - whatever - and then automatically get charged every 30 to 60 days for a new "supply." You will, have to pay for shipping and Wisconsin sales tax, since this is a Wisconsin business. Check it out for yourself.
Today at the office I took a few moments to give my skin the once-over under the harsh and unforgiving flourescent lights. I've got six overheads plus an undershelf flourescent so my office is BRIGHT. It might seem like overkill - particularly when I walk into some offices that are about as bright as Cro-Magnon caves - but it sure cuts down on eye strain.
I whipped out my compact and, with glasses on (can't see a thing close-up otherwise, these days) I gave my face the once-over. Keeping in mind that I had make-up on (foundation, sheer powder just for shiny areas, pencil eyeliner and mascara), I have to say the skin is looking mighty good. Improved even, since I wrote up my first report this past Saturday. I really scrutinized it. On the right side of my face, where a pesky zit is slowly healing, a wee bit of flaking skin. I saw no flaking skin on the left side of my face, where an equally pesky zit is also slowsly healing. The skin on my chin which gives me horrid acne eruptions had a few bits of flaking skin here and there. The under-skin bumps are still there, but diminished. Overall I think my pores look better, so the promised improvement in skin texture may be starting. Lo and behold, those "laugh lines" at the corners of my eyes have improved - I didn't think it was possible, but - not sure how to put this - they are still visible, of course, but they aren't as "deep" - not that they were like craters, LOL! Definitely shallower (is that a word?) I also zeroed in on that unfortunate crease across the top of my nose which appeared as if out of nowhere in 2003. It's horizontal, not "frown lines" (which are vertical). That too, looks better. I was shocked by that!
Feather lines around my upper lip, can't say I see any change, but I haven't been using the Maxifirm there either until this morning. I didn't know I was supposed to use it over my entire face 2x a day, I'd only been spot treating around my eyes and hit or miss the slight creases on either side of my mouth. So, I'll see what that area looks like on my next report date, March 2nd.

L'Bri Update
This morning started Day 10 of my new facial care regime using the L'Bri products I purchased at my sister's and niece's party earlier this month. I purchased the following items:
(1) Body lotion (not part of the facial regime)
(2) Cleanser (gentle formulation)
(3) Rejuvenating Facial Peel (I judged this to be a gentler way to exfoliate than using the facial and body scrub) - made with fruit enzymes, no granuals or "beads" to "scrub" the skin
(4) Freshener (no alcohol in formula) that can be spritzed on or can be used on a cotton ball or pad and wiped over face
(5) Smooth 'n Firm Eye Repair Gel
(6) Moisturizer
(7) Maxifirm Skin Renewal Complex - supposed to visibly lift and tighten skin around eyes, etc.
My take on the products thus far:
(1) I love the body lotion! I have been using it on my alligator skin legs, even worse condition knees and elbows, and the stuff really does work like Liz the rep said it would. It is light, non-greasy and has a nice light fragrance, not perfumey. I have also been using the body lotion on the skin on my throat and neck and I am amazed at the difference! The reduction in the creases and wrinkles in the neck, throat and high chest areas is definitely noticeable. Definite improvement in the appearance of the skin on my arms and legs and heels. My skin also feels much softer and smoother to the touch. Hands down the best body lotion I have ever used - and I've tried sooooo many over the years. It's well worth the $13.25 for 8 ounces in a pump bottle.
(2) Cleanser. I like this product for not irritating my skin and its pleasant scent. It does take off waterproof mascara, but it takes a couple of applications to do that and "scraping" with my fingernails. I suppose I'm cheating - I am using the same non-greasy gentle facial cleanser that I had been using in the mornings before I started the L'Bri regime, to remove my make-up, and then do a second cleansing with the L'Bri cleanser. I stopped using my Dove soap (used since 1986), which Liz the L'Bri lady was horrified to learn I'd been using. Far too drying, she said. There has been a noticeable decrease in dry flaky patches on my face, so she was right. I admit I was dubious - how could one remove make-up and get one's face clean without using soap? But the cleanser does the job and I have not suffered any new break-outs from clogged pores. I am, however, dealing with the slow healing of my last adult acne flare-up including classic large red "zits" (one on either side of my face near my "laugh lines") and lots of under-skin bumps. They are diminishing, but not fast enough!
(3) Rejuvenating Facial Peel. The first time I put it on, it didn't work the way it had at the demonstration at the L'Bri party. But I tried it again last night and actually counted out 30 seconds before starting to massage, and this time it worked. Wow, did it ever work! It worked so much that I figured I must have a lot of exfoliating to do, so I did it again this morning, and more skin sloughed off. My skin seems happy with this treatment - no flare ups or blotchiness afterward and it definitely feels much smoother now.
(4) Freshener. It doesn't sting, it's refreshing. The first time I used it, I spritzed it onto a cotton pad and then wiped my face with it, and I noticed a lot of gunk on the pad. But that was the first day I started using the L'Bri products so I figure there must have been a lot of residue of other stuff on my face, because now, when I wipe, there is no such residue showing up on the cotton pad - and I've looked very carefully for anything! So, I first spray a little bit on the pad and wipe over my "T" zone, and then I close my eyes and do a couple of spritzes right from the spray bottle. It's very refreshining. Is it doing any good? I have no idea. But it does not seem to be doing any harm.
(5) Smooth 'n Firm Eye Repair Gel. According to the product description, this is supposed to restore elasticity while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and puffiness around the eye area. I have not noticed any difference in the appearance of lines and wrinkles or elasticity and the under-eye puffiness and dark circles are still there.
(6) Moisturizer. Light and non-greasy enough for me to use over my entire face. Does not seem to clog pores - I would notice immediately. My post-menopausal skin flares up at the slightest provocation.
(7) Maxifirm. This product claims independent clinical studies that showed a 20% increase in skin's firmness and skin density improved by up to 77.2% after only 4 weeks. So - I'll give it some more time but at this point, I have not noticed any improvement and, when applied to the delicate skin under my eyes, it actually seemed to accentuate the lines and creases. Eek! Not good.
Overall: My face is definitely feeling smoother and softer. This morning, afer close examination with glasses on and also checking with a magnifying mirror, it appears that there has been some reduction in the size of some areas of enlarged pores, but others areas appear unaffected. Flaky patches of skin are gone and that is a definite plus. I can perceive no decrease in fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. I do not see any difference in the appearance of the area under the eyes or a decrease in the crease line at the top of my nose. No visible effect upon droopy and lined eyelids. As far as I can tell, Maxifirm is not doing anything for me, and may actually be accentuating wrinkles in the delicate thin skinned area under my eyes.
I saw my sister Yvonne yesterday. She is five years younger than me. I have not seen her since the L'Bri party - a little more than 2 weeks ago. I immediately noticed that her skin looks much better than I've ever seen it. Better than when I last saw her, at the L'Bri party. She still has dark circles under her eyes, and definite lines and wrinkles (as do I), but the rest of her face looks very smooth and firm. Nice texture. The difference is noticeable. Her skin is also soft to the touch - she invited me to touch it and see for myself. She has been using the L'Bri products for about 2 months now, and she swears by them. So - I am definitely willing to give the facial products another 20 to 35 days, which would take me to between 4 and 6 weeks from first use.
The body lotion is a definite BUY. It works exactly as promised. I love the product.
When I visit Isis and Michelle for my get-away at the end of tax season, I'll be taking a supply of the body lotion with me for each of them. What works in Wisconsin's sub-zero dessicating winter winds and and moisture-sucking central heating should work just as well in the moisture-sucking extreme heat and equally drying air-conditioning of Las Vegas.
I'll do another report on my skin's condition around March 3rd.

A Girly Evening
I wouldn't exactly say I got suckered into coming. After all, it was a party being hosted by one of my sisters and one of my nieces, and I didn't have a really good excuse for not going, since this sis also works downtown and offered to motor me to her home (the location of the party) and back to my home (waaayyyy across town). So, I said okay, I'll come -- secretly hoping she'd forget all about me when the day came...
But she didn't forget about me. So, last night, I met my sis Yvonne at the mall and we arrived at her place about 5:40. The "party" - a presentation by a representative of L'Bri, a company founded by a Wisconsin couple, was due to start at 6:30 more or less. While I fed myself and chatted with my brother-in-law, a great-niece, a great-nephew, my sister, a niece and a niece-in-law (is that a legal term?) and received an education on Sponge Pants Bob on cable television courtesy of my great-niece -- my sister, niece and niece-in-law chopped, blended, mixed, and laid out a veritable smorgasbord of food (enough to feed Coxy's Army - 10 bonus points if you remember hearing that expression from your parents!)
Soon enough we were all seated around tables and faced with magnifying mirrors (which I did not look into the entire evening, thank you very much), and the presentation began. I had done some research before hand and I was not able to locate a single negative comment about the products. That, in and of itself, was very strange! So, I was prepared to be skeptical about any outlandish claims, although I would be a good sister and keep my mouth shut about my doubts!
I have to say Liz is very good at what she does, and very natural. It was soon clear either she is the best damn actress in the entire world or she is just a warm, friendly person who is totally in love with the products she sells. Everyone had a good time as we sampled various products in the skin care line, and I eventually volunteered to have one-half of my face made-over with L'Bri's cosmetic product line. Half of me was gorgeous by the end of the evening...
It was a fun time. I spent too much but, what the hell, it's my sister. She has been using the products for 2 weeks and has been impressed by the changes she has seen in the condition and texture of her skin. She also convinced my brother-in-law to try the body lotion, and -- he's such a good sport, LOL! -- he was called out of the sanctuary of the family room to show us newly-smooth elbows minus alligator skin, thanks to using the body lotion daily. As I am also plagued with Wisconsin alligator skin during the long, cold, dry winters (I think a lot of us are, but it is a topic swept under the rug, you know...) My sis is no one's fool, and if she was impressed with these products, I figured it's a gamble well worth taking.
What I liked most of all is that you are not pressured to buy anything. I also liked that an order is not a 'repeat' order like, unfortunately, so many skin care products are sold on the internet today -- you must provide a credit card number, you must have automatic order refill ever 30, 60 or 90 days at a set (usually close to $100) price. You must cancel via email (yeah, good luck with that!) if you decide you no longer want to order the product. Bla bla bla. L'Bri isn't like that - which I really appreciate.
And this was fun, being with family, old friends, some new friends, gossipping, good munchies (I restricted myself to cucumber, green pepper and pretzel rounds) while trying out the products. I have to say I was impressed with how the products worked. So - 20 years off in 3 weeks!!! Nah - that's not a claim Liz the L'Bri lady made to anyone, LOL! That's what I want!!!
Hell, I'll take 10 years. I'll report back in 3 weeks and let you know what I think.
