Harini stuns Eesha in Premier National women's chess

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu girl S Harini was the
toast of the fourth round in the Premier
National women's chess at the Nehru indoor stadium on Tuesday. Harini
accounted for International Master Eesha Karavade of Maharashtra and helped
herself to shared second position with three points.
Giant-killer Pratyusha Bodda of AP lost in the fourth round to Mary Ann Gomes of West Bengal, who shared the lead with Woman Grandmaster Tania Sachdev (Delhi) and International Master Nisha Mohota (PSPB).
Adopting four knights defence, Harini took control against Eesha early in the game. By move 12, Harini got a definite edge, when Eesha neglected her kingside pawn structure. Harini kept the pressure on black's defence and chased Eesha's king. With a queen and double rook battery, Harini won the point after 29 moves.
Top seed Tania Sachdev kept her lead scoring over Bhakti Kulkarni (Goa). In a pitched battle in Nimzo-Indian defence, Tania won a pawn on the queenside. With the clock ticking away, Tania exerted pressure on the kingside with her queen and rook. Bhakti resigned on the 38th move, when faced with the loss of queen for rook.
